Beatrix Potter walk: from Bowness to Hawkshead

Walk down to the shore of Lake Windermere, then take the ferry across the lake and walk up to Beatrix Potter’s house, Hill Top, half an hour away in Near Sawrey. You can explore the wooded fells of Claife Heights on your way to the villages of Sawrey and Hawkshead, taking in the sights and sounds that inspired Peter Rabbit and other tales. For a beautiful 2-hour walk, continue over the hills to Wray Castle, open to the public. Return across the lake and wander through the gift shops in Bowness town for some souvenirs. Along the way you will be able to walk through the lovely woods of Cockshott Point that Beatrix Potter bequeathed to the National Trust.

You can make the walk as long or as short as you like by making use of a shuttle bus to suit your own itinerary.
