Happy Birthday Beatrix!

On the 28th July 2016 it is exactly 150 years since the birth of Beatrix Potter.

The National Trust are celebrating right across the Lake District with many different Beatrix themed activities.  Bunting, cake and a souvenir for children are the order of the day and places with outdoor spaces will be encouraging people to take along a picnic.

July has been a month of celebrations as the 7th July marked another special milestone for the National Trust - 70 years of Hill Top being open to the public. Hill Top is still one of Cumbria's most popular visitor attractions today, welcoming around 100,000 visitors each year from all over the world who come to see the home of Beatrix Potter. This seventy-year success was marked on 7th July by special items from the collection on display in the house. Whilst in the garden there was Beatrix Potter storytelling, the chance to try water colour painting, join in with making a rag rug and meet Herdwick sheep.
