Hidden gems at the Beatrix Potter Gallery

You will find Beatrix's childhood collections cabinet on display with an open drawer, revealing a weird and wonderful assortment of gemstones, fossils and minerals that the young Beatrix Potter collected during her many family holidays. These discoveries went on to inspire Beatrix to produce detailed sketches and drawings, inspiring many of her much-loved tales and illustrations. The rest of the collections cabinet is brought to life with interactive touchscreens, allowing visitors to look into the cabinet's drawers, as Beatrix and her brother would once have done. Alongside the screens is an exhibition of forty pieces of Beatrix Potter artwork tthat was inspired by her early holidays in England and Scotland.

The holiday theme continues at Hill Top, Beatrix's Lakeland house, where visitors can uncover the stories of some of the many hundreds of different guests who have visited before them, since Beatrix started welcoming people to the small farmhouse in the early 1900s.

The Beatrix Potter Gallery and Hill Top open for the new visitor season on Saturday 14 February 2015.
