Japanese visitors raise £35,000 for conservation in the Lake District

This magnificent contribution to conservation has been generated through a Nurture Lakeland Visitor Giving scheme originally set up in 2010 by the Lake District Japan Forum. Through this scheme, Japanese visitors travelling with nine Japanese tour operators are able to donate £5 each to conservation within the Lake District at the time of booking their trip. Last year's donations are currently funding path restoration by the National Trust around Hill Top, where Beatrix Potter once lived. Every person who donates through this scheme receives an exclusive Peter Rabbit pin badge and a certificate. Nurture Lakeland says: 'We are delighted by the continued support of our Japanese visitors, who are helping to preserve the Lake District's landscape so that future generations can enjoy the natural beauty and assets cherished by today's visitors. We hope the scheme will prove as successful in the coming year as it has been so far.'
